Place: Quandary Peak
State: CO
Country: USA
Fatalities: 1
Summary: 1 Skier caught, partially buried, and killed.

A 25-year-old Broomfield man (Denver metro area) told friends on Tuesday he was going touring, but he did not say where. Late Thursday a Summit County Sheriff's deputy noticed the victim's vehicle parked parked at a popular trailhead for Quandary Peak. (Quandary Peak is a popular and relatively easy 14,000-foot peak South of Breckenridge.) On Christmas day searchers found some of his gear in a gully on the South side of the peak. Soon after they found the partly-exposed victim. He died of traumatic injuries sustained in the avalanche during his ride down the steep and rocky gully. This is Colorado's second confirmed avalanche fatality of the season, however, a third victim is still missing and presumed buried in avalanche west of Nederland, CO on 12/18/99.
