Twenty-One-Year-Old Swept Away By Snow Slide

McBRIDE, B.C., 12:48 p.m. EST March

23, 2001 -- An Edmonton man is dead after

being buried alive in an avalanche

Wednesday.

It happened in British

Columbia, just west of the

Alberta border near the

town of McBride. RCMP

say the 21-year-old was

snowmobiling with a large

group in the Renshaw

mountain area when he

was swept away by the

snow slide.

By the time search and rescue crews arrived by helicopter,

the victim had been uncovered by other snowmobilers and

they had started performing CPR.

The victim was then air lifted off the mountain.

Justin Robert Leigh died before making it to hospital. An

autopsy will be performed in Prince George later this week.
