(CP) - A married father of

two children is dead after

his snowmobile triggered

an avalanche, plunging him

and the machine 500

metres off a ridge in the

Rocky Mountains.

The death Friday of Barry

Strandquist, 42, of

Crowsnest Pass, was the

28th avalanche fatality in

British Columbia and

Alberta this season - the

worst year since 1965

when 28 people died. RCMP

say Strandquist drove his

snowmobile onto a snow

overhang which broke free,

triggering the slide.
