INVERMERE, B.C. (CP) -
A guide leading a group of
snowmobilers was killed in
an avalanche in the Purcell
Mountains in the B.C.
Interior Thursday afternoon.
The other 11 snowmobilers
escaped uninjured in the slide
in the Brewer Creek area
southwest of Invermere.
RCMP identified the victim
as Ken Hoffert, 37, of
Invermere. The avalanche
came just one day after four avalanche deaths. Three snowmobilers were
killed in a slide near Fernie and - in a separate incident - a French heli-skier
died in an avalanche near Valemount.
The latest death brings to 24 the number of people killed in avalanches in
British Columbia this season.
