Avalanche Fatality ? March 5, 2006 Fairy Creek, BC.
On March 5, 2006, at approximately 1:30 pm MST a person riding a snowmobile was killed by an avalanche, approximately 5 km north of Fernie, BC in Fairy Creek.
The avalanche occurred while a group of two were highmarking. It was triggered in a weak area of snow between two rock outcrops on a east facing slope and approximately 2000m. The avalanche was estimated to be a size 2.0 and was 35m wide, ranged
from 35 to 70 cm deep and ran 150m. The estimated depth of the avalanche debris was 1.5 to 2m deep.
The person was located with an avalanche transceiver search.
