PROVIDENCE - Two men died Wednesday in an avalanche in Cache County, the sheriff there said.

The snowmobilers were riding on Logan Peak. Their names were not immediately available.

Sheriff Lynn Nelson said snowmobilers were in an area on the backside of the mountain when the two victims were caught in an avalanche. One person in the party reported the incident about 10:30 a.m. on a satellite phone.

The bodies were found using probes. A command post has been established in Providence Canyon.

The Utah Avalanche Center, said there was considerable to high danger of slides throughout the state. The center warned against backcountry travel in central to northern Utah, including the Uinta Mountains and the Bear River Range.
