***INITIAL REPORT***

On 12-28-08 at around 4:00 PM Okanogan County Deputy Michael Blake, Aero

Methow Rescue and Okanogan County Search and Rescue responded to Harts

Pass reference a subject trapped in an avalanche.

The investigation shows that Joshua S. Peters, 24 of Colville was

riding snowmobiles in the area of Brown Bear Basin near Harts Pass.

Peters was caught in the avalanche and was buried by the snow. His

fellow snowmobilers were able to locate Peters and dig him out after

about fifteen minutes. Peters was not breathing at the time and CPR was

started but Peters was never revived and was pronounced deceased.

Approximately 16 volunteers responded into the area to assist.

All four riders were very experienced riders, had avalanche beacons and

avalanche probes with them.
