Chairman Statement for the ISSW 1994,

The ISSW '94 attracted over 400 participants from 11 countries. It was held at the Snowbird Ski Resort, in Little Cottonwood, Utah. An area renowned for its avalanche history. With its continuing theme of "A Merging of Theory and Practice" the ISSW affords members of the avalanche community the opportunity to get together informally, as well as on an academic level. Future ISSW's will explore new topics, raise many questions and provide some answers. If you are involved in snow or avalanche work and have an idea, a device or a project you are working on, share it with others. To maintain its uniqueness, ISSW needs contributions from practitioners as well as theoreticians. Most of the people who attend these workshops are just like you, they will be interested in what you have to say, and will appreciate your efforts. Thanks to all the people who worked hard to pull this off. Thanks to the Snowbird Ski Resort for helping to make it all possible. Thanks also to those of you who took the time and effort to produce the many fine papers that were presented. Lastly, thanks to everyone who traveled from near and far and brought your interest in snow and avalanches with you.

See you in Banff in 1996.
