Unlikely to bury a person.

Small avalanches are relatively harmless unless they drag you into trees, rocks, or gullies. They are unlikely to bury a person on a planar slope.  A typical D1 avalanche would fill an average apartment with less than a meter of debris (less than 10 tons of snow) and runs the length of one or several buses.
