How susceptible you are to the impacts of an avalanche.

Vulnerability is how susceptible you are to the impacts of an avalanche and is strongly linked to consequence. Proper gear and training will make you less vulnerable to avalanche hazards.  With all other things being equal, those who use safety equipment such as transceivers and airbags are less vulnerable than those who don’t. An experienced backcountry skier who responds immediately when caught in an avalanche and escapes is less vulnerable than a beginner who may be slow to recognize the situation and be swept away.

If you choose to expose yourself to a hazard, you can reduce your risk by being prepared with appropriate rescue gear and training.
