The chance of harm from avalanches.
Avalanches are not a risk until we (humans) interact with them. Avalanche risk is a function of the avalanche hazard, your exposure to that hazard, and your vulnerability if you get caught. Managing risk in avalanche terrain requires consideration for both probability and consequences. In other words, we can manage our risk by understanding the day’s hazards, controlling our exposure to it, and limiting our vulnerability as much as we can.
